As a professor and doctoral supervisor, my study direction is microbial resources mining and detection techniques development for food safety microorganisms. Research work at present time focus on finding new bacteriocin and extracellular polysaccharide of lactic acid bacteria origin. The study will be devoted to food biological preservatives, probiotics and prebiotics product development. A total of 16 research projects from Natural Science Foundation of China, National Sci-tech Support Plan, and Tianjin Science and Technology Support Plan etc are completed or in progress. Four books including Hemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157 and one textbook Food Safety were published. More than 40 SCI retrieval papers and 70 Chinese core journal papers were published as the first or corresponding author. A total of 8 provincial and ministerial scientific and technological achievement awards were acquired.

- The study target is to research on the diversity of microbial species in fermented foods, and analyze their metabolites with industrial and food use. The most interested metabolites at present time are bacteriocin, extracellular polysaccharides, erythritol, and industrial enzymes.
- The study interest is to develop the new natural food preservatves based on bacteriocin of lactic acid bacteria. Another study interest is on the rapid detection of food safety microorganisms.
