Brief Introduction

Jiachen Yang: IEEE Senior Member; a member of New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education; professor of Communication and Information Engineering, Tianjin University; Doctoral supervisor.

Began to study at Tianjin University in 1998. After years of hard work, he got a bachelor degree of engineering in 2002, master degree in 2005 and doctor degree in 2009 in School of Electronic Information Engineering, Tianjin University. After that, he worked in Tianjin University and carried out independent scientific research. In 2011, he served as the associate professor and master supervisor of School of Electronic Information Engineering. Since 2015, he has been working as a doctoral supervisor. And he became a professor of Communication and Information Engineering in 2016. In the meantime, as a visiting scholar, he went twice to the Loughborough University in UK from January 2014 to January 2015 and from June 2016 to September 2016.

Has received many honors like New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, second prize at Scientific and Technological Progress in provincial and ministerial level, and scholar at Tianjin University in the key members of the Young Teachers Program.

He also holds many social posts like project evaluation expert of National Natural Science Foundation of China, evaluation expert of Ministry of Science and Technology, evaluation expert of State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, evaluation expert of Ministry of Education and appraisal expert of Science and Technology Council of Tianjin.

His research field lies in information processing. The main research interests include stereoscopic vision imaging, marine information processing, internet of things, and large data processing.

Has been in charge of more than 30 projects in the past five years, including two projects of National Natural Science Foundation, and has gotten more than 15 million yuan cumulative funds. He has published more than 40 papers on the SCI. He also has applied for more than 40 patents, and more than 20 of them have been authorized.

Our lab prepares to recruit doctoral and master students(priority for bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and master-straight-to-doctorate students). We expect students who are interested in the fields of our programs to join us and do scientific research together, and excellent students graduating from majors of applied mathematics and oceanography of key universities are also welcome.

Our lab also opens for senior undergraduates to involve with scientific research and receive scientific research training as trainees there. But we sincerely hope applicants will aim at deepening their learning ability rather than just getting a lab experience.

Artificial Intelligence and Marine Information Processing Laboratory
The artificial intelligence and Marine Information Laboratory of Tianjin University was established in April, 2010. The research team relies on the school of electrical automation and information engineering of Tianjin University and has strong hardware foundation and technical support. At present, it has undertaken more than 40 projects, spent more than 50 million on scientific research, published more than 120 high-level SCI papers, and authorized more than 40 invention patents.
The research directions of our laboratory are mainly divided into three categories:
(1)Cybersecurity & Privacy: we focus on portrait privacy and security on social media. In response to this problem, we have explored the forgery detection and the internal mechanism of forgery at the same time, and have achieved outstanding results.
(2)Sample information: we explored how to combine samples to bring higher information gain to the model. Our work includes but is not limited to: active learning and its explanation methods, element-based sample information evaluation methods, guided-sampling methods, etc.
(3)Reinforcement learning: our group focuses on innovation and application of reinforcement learning algorithms, including multi-agent reinforcement learning, reinforcement learning generalization and robustness research, and application of reinforcement learning in marine. Based on reinforcement learning, we have implemented path planning, pilot following, track keeping and obstacle avoidance tasks for AUVs in Gazebo platform.
(4)Intelligent Marine: Focus on practical demands on marine applications and advances in informatics, marine information processing technology has produced various intelligent marine big data platforms. The platforms are applicable to vessels, underwater vehicles, floats, controlling ocean environmental monitoring and processing the observed information.
The main personnel include a number of full-time research engineers, as well as more than 40 doctoral and graduate students. we expect students who are interested in the fields of our projects to join us and do scientific research together.
